Youth choose to raise and protect

Rector of Dalrybvtuz Oleg Shcheka on how the world is changing and how the education sector responds to this

In recent years, in the Primorsky Territory, the demand for specialists who are ready to solve pressing problems has been growing - the depletion of aquatic biological resources, the need for technological "re-equipment" of the fish industry. The popularity of applied and industry specialties among applicants has increased also thanks to the development of mariculture farms and the fashion for gastronomic tourism in the region.

As the leading regional sectoral educational center of the Federal Agency for Fisheries, Dalrybvtuz fulfills the main mission of training highly qualified specialists for the fishery industry of the country. Our graduates successfully solve state problems of the development of fisheries, working in various administrative and supervisory bodies, territorial departments for fisheries and forestry and other organizations. Almost every large enterprise in the Primorsky Territory has graduates of our university.

We strive to be the most integrated participants in the fishery industry. It is extremely important for a branch university that the acquaintance with the profession takes place in conditions as close as possible to real ones. The university has its own training sailing frigate "Pallada" and modern training centers for practicing the practical skills of naval assignments by university cadets, conducts practical training at leading specialized events, teaches students based on real situational cases and production tasks, creates educational trajectories in which university graduates automatically receive at least one job offer from future specialized employers.

Today Dalrybvtuz offers 34 educational programs of various profiles: maritime, economic, technical and others. Traditionally, the most popular specialties are “Aquatic Bioresources and Aquaculture”, as well as “Biotechnology”. This is reflected in the marine specificity of the coastal region and the task of providing mariculture enterprises with professional personnel.

No less popular educational areas are "Product technology and organization of public catering", "Food from vegetable raw materials" and "Food of animal origin" as a response to the growing popularity of gastronomic tourism in our region, as well as the growth of manufacturing enterprises in the field of food production. We remain the main supplier of qualified personnel in the region in such specialties as "Industrial fishing", "Refrigeration, cryogenic equipment and life support systems", etc.

Of course, in the arsenal of our educational programs there are areas of training that ensure the work of the maritime industry: "Shipping", "Operation of ship power plants", "Management of water transport and hydrographic support of navigation" and others. Our university is the only educational institution in the Far East that trains specialists for three areas of the maritime industry at once, including the merchant, fishing and military fleets.

Dalrybvtuz annually conducts surveys of applicants in order to find out the motives and factors affecting the choice of certain educational areas. We can distinguish three main criteria, which are the most important benchmarks for us that ensure the attractiveness of the university for applicants: this is the high quality of education at the university, the availability of an interesting field of study and the ability to find a good job after graduation.

One of the professions for which we note a steady growth in popularity among our applicants are the professions of eco-, bio- and mariculture profiles. We associate this with urgent global and regional problems that the younger generation is ready to tackle - this is both the depletion of biological resources of inland water bodies of Russia, and the need for technological re-equipment of the fish industry. These and other applied problems are being successfully studied at Dalrybvtuz. Here we get another social effect - the consolidation of youth in the region. As you know, many graduates of Far Eastern universities prefer to look for a place for their future work closer to the central part of Russia. The specialists of our university have the opportunity to apply their knowledge and make a brilliant career in their native region, which eliminates the need to look for employment opportunities outside the Far East.

In recent years, we have noted a steady growth in the demand for specialists in the maritime profile from employers. This is confirmed by the latest studies by the Agency for the Development of Human Capital in the Far East, according to which, by 2025, more than 10 thousand qualified personnel will be required for Far Eastern shipbuilding, fishing, ports and logistics companies. That is, the annual need is about 1 people for employment in 700 companies, including 100 companies of the TOP residents. We also see that today's youth are more balanced in their choice of a future profession. Applied, industry specialties are gradually gaining more and more attention among applicants. This is largely due to the development of modern digital technologies - now almost any information is available on a particular specialty, its advantages and disadvantages.

On June 20 another admission campaign of the university started. At the beginning of July, we received more than a thousand applications, which undoubtedly indicates the interest of young people in working in the fishing industry. From the beginning of this academic year, by decision of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, a Military Training Center will start operating on the basis of the Far Eastern State Technical Fisheries University, which will train students and cadets in military specialties in the new academic year.

Training in military training centers is equivalent to conscription service in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. For the first enrollment, 108 students will be selected according to the programs of military training of foremen and reserve sailors in the military registration specialties "Ship navigation and visual communication", "Navigation radar equipment", "Ship electrical equipment". After training, the cadets will receive the junior naval rank "sailor" or the military rank of sergeant staff "sergeant major" with admission to the reserve. The training will be organized by the "war day" method, which includes training sessions, training, organizational, educational work and independent training.

The list of areas of training for higher education programs in civilian specialties remains traditional this year. However, the content of educational programs is monitored and updated annually. According to the programs of additional professional education and advanced training, in the near future we will offer a number of new directions for training related to ensuring the safety of navigation in modern conditions.
